I took the new shopping tote out for a little test run to Trader Joe's tonight. I should have snapped a pic or two while I was actually there or on the train home, but I didn't remember about the snazzy camera on my new phone until I got home.
Oh, yes, the new phone is a delight. After it arrived yesterday, I spent a few hours getting acquainted with it. I must say, the photos it takes are nice quality for a phone.
It was a little quiet here at the blog last week while I put the finishing touches on the store. I'm loving the new layout - and thus far have heard great feedback from those who have come in. I think my favorite part of the new layout is my sewing station . . .
I also found a great way to waste time last week: Facebook. It seems like every time I would sit at my computer I'd end up on Facebook, most likely emailing with friend from high school. And that's the crazy thing about Facebook - the people from my past who have popped up again.
Today I should be getting my new cell phone, which will hopefully make me more productive. I'm finally moving up to a smart phone, giving me wireless broadband and thus mobile access to my email and blog. The Mister and I had been very tempted to pick up iPhones when the new version came out last year but 1) we couldn't afford 2 new phones without some carrier incentive and 2) I've always been very happy with Verizon and wanted to stay with them. So last week when I received a flyer from Verizon that suggested I could get a Blackberry on sale, I jumped at it. As it turns out, I got 2 Blackberries for the price of one (one for me, one for The Mister) and I got a $50 rebate. All told, I got 2 Blackberry Storms for half the price of 1 iPhone. Hooray for bargains! And from the reviews I've read online, the Storm is very similar to iPhone, and in some ways, actually even better!
Yeah, so the new phone is going to be the highlight of my week, I'm sure. I love gadgets and having the ability to use the internet wherever I am is going to greatly improve my life.
Time for another little polical moment here on Zola Jones.
You know, The Mister and I can't legally marry. Despite our ten years together, even though we're more committed than many other couples I've known, we're not able to make it legal in Illinois. I can't begin to understand why but when you're on the inside of a problem, it's often very difficult to understand it.
I just watched the video below and all I can say is ... love will prevail.
It will probably not surprise you to learn that I am not a sports fan. I mean, I am an interior decorating, handbag designing, fashion and food obsessed man who's married to another man. Not exactly a shock that I don't like sports, is it?
What I do like, though, is gadgetry and Chicago. So when I saw this live-stream of Chicago and Addison, home of Wrigley Field, I had to pass it along.
Besides, I know there's a reader of the Zola Jones blog in Fargo, ND who will appreciate this.
It's been quiet here on the blog because I've spent the past three days completely redesigning the store. A new look for 2009!
New paint on the walls, new curtains in the back of the store, new layout - it's all new, new, NEW! And just what I needed apparently. I'm re-energized to get new bags into production. And I'm ready to shrug off this sluggish economy and make the world fall in love with Zola Jones all over again (or maybe for the first time)!
I have no idea who this lady is*, or when in the 1980s she made this video, but I'm inspired!
INSPIRATION! Can't you just see a Zola Jones video like this? Tour designer Jason Loper's closet as he gives you tips on fashion and style. Except that bitch has a much bigger closet than me! She has a great walk-in closet and I have to suffice with a closet I share with The Mister. Then again, a man's wardrobe is much more compact than a woman's.
Oh, but it gets better! Exercise how-to also? Oh, yes, join designer Jason Loper as he shows you how he maintains that wonderful boyish figure of his! And while this lady has her fluffy little dog, I'd have the one and only Zola Jones kitty! Of course, my home-gym consists of a big box of kitty litter (weights) and a mix of dance music (cardio).
Seriously, though, I have been thinking about doing some video stuff for my blog. Especially for my new blog, Living Down Jones, a guide to living simply. Actually I have an even better subtitle for the new blog: Living Like a Queen on a Bitch's Budget! There's only 1 post there right now, but go take a look anyway.
*I did a little research and the lady in the videos is Brenda Dickson. She appeared on a soap, The Young and the Restless, throughout most of the 70s and 80s. The video is called "Welcome to My Home" and it was produced in 1987. Lately, Ms. Dickson has spent some time in jail over a property dispute with her ex-husband.
Musings of a 30-something Chicago handbag designer. Often talking about my business, with some social commentary, the occasional gushing about a new band, a few cute stories about life with my husband (The Mister) and the kitty (Zola Jones), plus some filler.
